Whammy NEO – Bring your DigiTech Whammy 5 next Level!
Many Whammy users effectively rely on only two or three of the available effects in everyday use.
The reason is rarely the sound itself, but rather the operation. Manually switching settings on the device
interrupts the playing flow, and even small pedal misalignments make it impractical to leave the Whammy
permanently engaged. Spontaneous sound changes during a song are therefore often difficult.
NEO addresses these everyday issues directly. By using predefined banks, essential Whammy sounds can be accessed
quickly and reliably without interacting with the device itself. The focus stays on playing, not on operating
the hardware.
In addition, NEO offers several configurable behavior modes that significantly simplify Whammy usage.
Alongside the familiar original control mode, Momentary and Time Holding modes are available. These allow the
effect to be active only when it is actually needed—without constant switching or precise pedal positioning.
A key feature of NEO is Shutter Gate. This time-controlled gate rhythmically switches the effect on and
off automatically. In situations where the Whammy would otherwise be difficult to control, this creates clear,
rhythmically structured effects. Combined with pedal movements, it enables lively and novel sounds that are hard
to reproduce manually.
For live performance, NEO includes an integrated Tap mode. This allows all time-based effects to be synchronized
directly to the song. By tapping, the tempo (BPM) is set in real time, defining how NEO’s internal timing
operates. This keeps effects in sync without pre-programming or additional hardware.
For users who want deeper control, NEO provides advanced automation features. With Auto-Dive, recorded
pedal movements can be played back automatically. The integrated curve designer allows these automations to be
edited and refined afterward with precision. All recorded sequences are stored permanently on the device and
remain available at all times.
NEO also includes a built-in step sequencer with a large selection of preset patterns as well as a visual editor
for creating and modifying custom Whammy sequences. Using TapRec, button press sequences can be recorded
and repeated. This makes it possible to rhythmically automate Whammy effects and opens up new approaches to sound
design—without complex control systems or external controllers.
NEO was developed to address real-world limitations encountered in daily Whammy use. Through continuous hands-on
testing, the software is consistently refined with the goal of improving playing flow and making creative Whammy
use more reliable, controllable, and musical.
